Cycling Routes

For the most part, our tours follow LF routes. LF routes are national long-distance cycling routes clearly marked by LF signposts. They are free and open to everybody. Occasionally, we also use self-guided cycling routes (cycling by numbers), which often run parallel to LF routes. Self-guided cycling routes are also marked with distinctive signs. The dutch word for this self-guided routes is “Knooppunt” route.

LF Routes

LF cycling routes form an extensive national network and can be identified by special signs. They show you around the Netherlands in all its diversity: natural areas and farmland, as well as pretty towns and villages. The routes follow quiet, safe back roads and segregated cycle ways.
Due to road works or temporary closure of a road it may not always be possible to follow the signs indicating LF-routes. In this case we will provide you with an alternative route, preferably one following self-guided route (“knooppunt”) signs.

Round Tours

All our tours are round tours, i.e. the hotel where you start your holiday is also the hotel you return to at the end. Free parking at the first hotel for the duration of your holiday.

Seven days a week service hotline

When ever you need assistance there is a service hotline for you, seven day’s a week (7×24).

Distances

We have listed explicitly all the daily cycling distances for each tour. Please study them carefully before you decide on a holiday. Moreover you may want to take into consideration how much time you want to spend sightseeing in relation to the hours spent cycling. Remember, you can always book an extra night if you need more time to see the sights.

Cycling route descriptions and tourist information

Included are detailed route descriptions and maps of your tours. We will send you maps and information as well as full directions and a description of the sights you will see along the way.

GPS and GPS-file

If the starting point of your tour is Amsterdam, Huizen or Utrecht, you can rent a GPS device from us when you book your tour. After picking it up at your first hotel, mount it onto your handle bars and you’re off! Navigation has never been easier. At the end of your Tour you can hand over your GPS to the reception of your last hotel. On demand we can deliver you the tour as a GPS file.

Self-guided routes (cycling by numbers). How does it work?

It’s really easy. The Dutch have a brilliant system for navigating the cycling path network!
• You will follow the numbers of the junctions and cycle from junction to junction.
• At every numbered intersection there’s a big sign with a map of the surroundings where you can see where you are and what options you have.
• The junctions that come together are signed with white-green signs.
Main intersections in the bike track network have been assigned a number. You’ll find them on the map we provide you with. On your handlebars, you’ll have a holder with a list of numbers to follow for that day’s route. It could read something like this: 51– 02– 03– 04– 87– 86– 06– 07- 25… Starting at intersection number 51, follow the signposts to intersection number 02. From there – you guessed it – follow the signs to intersection number 03 and so on.

These are examples of the kind of signs you will see on your tour:

At every numbered intersection there’s a big sign with a map of the surroundings where you can see where you are and what options you have, just like on the map that we provide you with.

The bottom three signs refer to fixed routes. For our tours, we sometimes use a combination of cycling-by-numbers and fixed routes, sending you along short stretches of long-distance LF routes, for example. This works just fine because the two systems tie in nicely. You’ll also find written directions in your Route Pack.
