Today you have got time to explore the cozy village Westerbork at your convenience. In the authentic village center you can taste the old Drenthe atmosphere.

The tour takes you to the famous Camp Westerbork, a major memorial to victims of the Second World War. Today you will find an impressive museum that gives a realistic picture of the persecution of Jews in the Netherlands. The museum even shows original footage from the year 1944! Westerbork is also a great place to discover the universe. Walking on the Milky Way path, located on the grounds of Westerbork, learns you everything about the universe. Here you will also find Europe’s largest radio telescopes. The famous Dutch writer Harry Mulisch his inspiration for his bestseller “The Discovery of Heaven” here. Enjoying the beautiful nature, you continue your ride. In forestry Grolloo the forest is interspersed with open moorland and fens. Silence is only broken by the whistle of a bird, the drumming of a woodpecker, or the sound of one of the many other animals. Impressive is the GrolloerVeen, a swampy moorland where you can enjoy the breathtaking silence.

The journey is full of surprises today. You start with the forests of the Elper Noorderveld. The light green deciduous trees form a striking contrast to the dark coniferous forests. Through the cozy village Schoonloo, you reach forestry Schoonloo. Again, you will be surprised by a big forest. The forest here is alternated by open areas, a scenic picture. Amid all the green, you suddenly see an inviting swimming pond. A pleasant surprise for those who wish to cool down. At the end of the day you return to your familiar hotel, after a wonderful day of cycling.

Is time travelling possible? That what’s you’ll wonder today when you visit the historic town Orvelte. The thatched historic farms, the old crafts that are displayed here and the narrow cobbled streets, brings you back in the past. After Orvelte you will cycle to Zweelo, a village where you can admire numerous Saxon farms. Nearby you can find the remains of gigantic prehistoric stone tombs (dolmens). At the end of the route you will get a pleasant surprise: the vast purple moors of Forestry Gees. This is the landscape that you know from postcards. Look out for Ellert and Brammert!? According to an old legend, these two giants make the area unsafe. At the end of the day you return to your cozy hotel.

Drenthe’s landscape is never boring. You start your tour with a wonderful route to Beilen, a cozy village where you can take a breather. You continue through the lush green pines of Forestry Dwingeloo. Alternating with heather fields, sand dunes and fens, it gives a magical impression. You pass the village of Spier and will return to Beilen. Through the Holtherzand, a beautiful area of woods and moodland , you return back to your hotel in Westerbork.

Today your cycling holiday comes to an end. But not before you have eaten a marvelous breakfast. After breakfast it’s time to go home.
